Antique long guns - William Wurfflein of Philadelphia, Percussion Schuetzen Rifle, .40 caliber, German silver trigger guard with checkered finger rest and double set triggers, lock plate and hammer are a dull gray signed "W. Wurfflein, Phila," percussion bolster inlaid with silver bands, case hardened tang, American walnut stock with large cheek rest and crescent moon butt German silver butt plate with acorn finials, 29-3/4 inch octagonal barrel drilled for false muzzle, top is marked "W. Wurfflein, Phila" with the side barrel flat bearing the mark "Steel," globe style front sight with flat-top rear and an adjustable rear diopter sight. A great example of an American made Schuetzen rifle, these were originally used in the aforementioned Scheutzen matches which typically were 200 yards and used specialized targets. This rifle was made to fit the original shooter's perfect dimensions and as such, the original owner was likely the only person who could fire this accurately. Rifle measures 48 inches in length including the false muzzle and weighs approximately 15 pounds, includes hard black plastic protective gun case. NOTE: No in-house shipping available. CONDITION:
Good action, double set triggers function properly; excellent overall cosmetic condition, bright fine bore with hardly any oxidation, metal surfaces have aged a pleasing dull gray, small dings and fine scratches are scattered about walnut stock as well as long drying cracks at left and right of stock, several other small dings on barrel and sides, excellent rear sight; trigger guard checking worn smooth but visible.
